Paperback. 'What could an artist do with a mobile phone?' This was the question photographer Beth Lilly asked herself and the answer become an ongoing participatory art project. Loosely modelled on divination, she uses her phone to make photographs in exchange for a caller's question. Each combination of text and photos creates surprising results that range from sarcastic to humorous to profound. After interpreting the 'readings' each person arrives at entirely different conclusions, suggesting an endless number of possible narratives. Photographer Beth Lilly's mobile phone photography project, in which she made photos in exchange for callers' questions. Beth Lilly uses the camera in her cell phone as a mode of fortune-telling. Her project is open for participation to everyone calling her on a certain day, date, and number that can be found on her website. Once a seeker gets in touch with her, she intuitionally finds and shoots three photographs in rapid succession. She emails these to the seeker who only then reveals his question. Each combination of question and photos creates surprising results that range from humorous to profound. This book compiles the most interesting results from hundreds of calls Lilly received from people around the world.
