Synopsis
In an adrenaline-fueled, debut novel by Connor Pritchard, The Order of the Magi reveals the shrouded history behind the world’s most ancient and ubiquitous symbols, and the gripping tale of the characters who seek to reveal its mysteries – a deck of playing cards will never appear the same. Isaac Alexander, a seventeen-year-old studying abroad in Gibraltar, is plagued by a recurring nightmare that threatens to push the boundaries of his sanity. Meanwhile, Isaac’s parents – stationed in Morocco on a humanitarian aid mission – are suddenly taken hostage by unknown captors, but not before Isaac’s father dispatches young Zahra to deliver a puzzling wooden box to his son and Issac’s uncle Jack, a former Royal Marine. In a Mediterranean adventure full of historical mysteries, secret societies, astronomy, numerology and primeval artifacts, Isaac and his companions embark on an exciting race to discover the clandestine history of the contents within the mysterious box. While entrenched in a frenetic search for truth and survival, Isaac uncovers a new reality about his father and an ancient order sworn to protect the secrets embedded in the stars. Are Issac’s dreams not madness, but coded messages relayed through his ancient lineage? To ensure the safety of this primordial power, save his parents and evade the kidnappers now after him and his companions, Isaac must come to grips with exactly who he is and what his dreams are telling him. Told with suspense, sharp wit and humor, and tailored to a generation raised on the storytelling style of Call of Duty and The Hunger Games, The Order of the Magi is a page-turning saga with vivid illustrations designed to take the reader through an epic quest for wisdom and truth in the world, and within oneself. The book also contains an appendix with custom artwork where readers can look up and read about their very own birth card. Fate is the hand of cards you have been dealt – Destiny is how you play them. Illustrations by Conor Buckley. Genre: Young Adult, Historical Fiction
