Synopsis
This is an excellent examination of the SS and why it was so popular with the National socialist German Workers Party. As history has shown many times ;an unquestioning alligence to a belief system can be one of mankinds greatest forces. The book shows why the SS was ,above all else, a belief system carried to the fullest height. The basic belief, that the German Race was the greatest race the world had ever seen and it was the duty of the Nazi Party to promote it above all others. The vehicle to accomplish this was through the SS.The book deals with the SS from its formation ,up to and during WWII.Since those in the SS believed their creed so completely;it was beyond their comprehension to accept the idea that any of their actions,no matter how evil ,could be anything but right and necessary to attain their aims.Unquestionably, this powerful organization was an essential component of the power that enabled the Nazi Party to become so powerful and accomplish such horrendous evil. The book has a lot of photographs of the people and leaders in the SS and shows many events in its history. There are extensive illustrations, both in B&W and Color,of propaganda posters, uniforms, insigna and medals, badges, armbands, flags, etc. The book goes into considerable detail to show how the roots of the SS are imbeded in ancient history. The book also details how the greatest minds and scientists worked in support of the Nazi Party through the Ahnenerbe, the SS University. The book will show the reader why the SS was so important to Hitler, what they believed in and why it became so powerful. In these days, where Terrorism is on the rampage again;it is very worthwile to read this book;as it shows how powerful an organization can become,if the people involved slavishly follow evil beliefs. It should also convince one that there is no reasoning with such a force;and the only way to deal with them,is their complete destruction.
