Oregon the Way It Was

Historic photographs and researched captions tell the stories of Oregon in the early years. Smoking autos, steam locomotives, trolley cars and clanging bells, people celebrating-memories are brought to life through the photos. All parts of Oregon are represented in this collection.

Edwin D. Culp was born in Portland, Oregon, November 11, 1913. He spent his entire life in this state. He graduated from Washington High School in Portland and the University of Oregon at Eugene. He was an enthusiastic historian and collector of early photographs particularly of the Pacific Northwest. His interest in this subject was created as a result of his grandparents coming to Oregon via the covered wagon and settling in the Willamette Valley.
