Organ Works: (1) Joseph Conrad - Ritratto In Prova (1987); (2) Contrasti - Pezzo Tretematico (1980); Nenia - Preludio (1937) [SCORES]

Three excellent organ compositions by this highly-regarded Swedish composer. The Joseph Conrad work is dedicated to the great writer and incorporates a Medieval Polish hymn melody. Additionally, the theme quoted on the score's cover (see accompanying scan image) is an example of "soggetto cavato"; i.e., it is derived from Conrad's name (13 pages). [NOTE: Enclosed with the Conrad score is a program from the Scandinavian Joseph Conrad Society's "First Symposium on Joseph Conrad", held in September 1988 in Copenhagen and Lund. It includes Hultberg's dedicatory poem as well as an analysis of his composition - useful for performers of the work.] Contrasti is a brilliant extended virtuoso piece for the advanced performer (19 pages). The contemplative Nenia prelude is an early tonal but highly chromatic work in C#-minor, written when the composer was just 25 years old (2 pages). CONDITION: Joseph Conrad is near-pristine, with a light corner crease. Contrasti is compromised only by two paste-ons (in the upper right corners of the cover and title page), evidently covering some unnecessary written information. Nenia is unmarked and uncreased, with no apparent shelf-wear aside from some age-tanning. These scores are now nestled in clear, protective polypropylene bags with archival backing boards.
