Two volumes complete. Hard covers in very good condition. No jacket. From the collection of David Graham Hutton, the recipient of the 'Director's Prize', LSE, 1926-1927; award bookplates adhered to front pastedowns. These are signed by William Beveridge, Director of the LSE (1919-1937), and author of the 1942 report Social Insurance and Allied Services (known as the Beveridge Report) that served as the basis for the welfare state put in place by the Labour government elected in 1945. General shelf and handling wear, including light wear to board edges, and tanning and foxing to the rough-cut pageblock. Several gutterbreaks noted in both volumes, pencilled marginalia and underlining in chapter XXIX, (Vol.II), small open tear to the head of page 705, and occasional penned margin markers in chapter XLVII (Vol.II). The rear pages of Volume II remain uncut. Brown cloth boards are in fine condition for their age, with gold 'London School of Economics & Political Science' emblem embossed to front covers, gold book details to spine. Minor crumpling to spine head and foot. Pageblocks are tanned and foxed, this leading into pastedowns, endpapers, title page, and final pages, otherwise, content is unmarked, with pages firmly bound.
