Origin of the Modern Jewish Woman Writer : Romance and Reform in Victorian England : ()

Examines the blossoming of Jewish women writers in England 1830- 80, the first Jewish women anywhere to publish novels, histories, periodicals, theological tracts, and conduct manuals. Demonstrates how their work can correct earlier views of the Anglo-Jewish derived from Christian writers and the very small output by Jewish men. Many of the popular writings argue for Jewish emancipation in England and women's emancipation in the Jewish world. Paper edition (unseen), $17.95. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.

The Origin of the Modern Jewish Woman Writer analyzes the development of Jewish women's writing in relation to Victorian literary history, women's cultural history, and Jewish cultural history.
