Original printed button paper, intended for use on a pin-back used by the Connecticut Women's Suffrage Association. Round printed paper approximately 1 5/8 inch in diameter, with a circular design printed in purple, white and green, stating: "VOTES FOR WOMEN," the text printed in purple, on a green and white field, around circular interlocking knot design, bearing the logo: "C. W. S. A." [Connecticut Women's Suffrage Association] all surrounded by green border. The total measurement including blank margins is 2.5" x 2.25". Printed on recto only. According to an online exhibition of the National Women's History Museum, "the use of tri-colors, purple, white and green originated with the Women's Social and Political Union in the British suffrage movement, to symbolize loyalty, purity and hope. The use of these colors was transferred to the American scene by Harriot Stanton Blatch (daughter of Elizabeth Cady Stanton) and others returning from their work with leaders of the militant suffrage movement in England. The use of [these] colors was concentrated primarily in New York, where Blatch set up her suffrage association, and in neighboring states of New Jersey and Connecticut.". A fine example, with the colors very fresh and bright. No holding of a pin-back with this logo located by *OCLC* (which does index other suffrage pin-back holdings), and not located in other noted woman suffrage pin-back collections. We did find one example of the assembled pinback in an online auction, with the purple and green colors greatly faded. Rare in both fact and in this format. Seller Inventory # 517594
