Program for a series of operas to be broadcast on radio from September 25 to October 27, 1945. The featured operas were all performed by the San Francisco Opera Company. Excerpt from an introduction by Safeway Stores: "We have prepared this program in the hope that it will bring into your home a fuller enjoyment of the world's great operas, as they are broadcast from the stage of the famous War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco. In this program are interesting synopses of each opera, written by two noted music critics, to help you follow the actual stage performance. There are histories of the operas, notes about the composers and interpretations of the principal artists. For your easy reference the radio stations, date and time of each broadcast, are shown, together with a listing of the principal artists and the roles they sing." In the rest of the introduction, Safeway Stores note that while the operas cannot be aired in their entirety due to their length, "we are able to broadcast much of each opera and most of the favorite scenes and arias.".
