Original publisher's multicolored paper wrappers with staple binding. Color illustration on front cover shows surreal artwork by Marc Chagall where a woman dances in a blue ballet dress near a figure who holds flowers and appears to have a horse's head; a chicken, moon, and buildings are shown at the bottom. No date, circa 1945. 9" x 12." Unpaginated, all pages, complete. Illustrations in black-and-white and color (most in black-and-white), complete. Many advertisements for various products and businesses included. Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning and slightly bumped corners. Covers are very clean and intact except for splitting along spine, light age toning, slight wear to extremities, and a few small wrinkles. A Very Good copy. This is an original program for the Ballet Theatre for Season 1945-1946. The following are some of the contents: introductory statement by Lucia Chase and Oliver Smith; ballet repertory with synopses (may be a partial list); an article about ballet recordings; "Who's Who" section with brief biographical information for some of the dancers; and black-and-white photographic portrait illustrations of S. Hurok, Jascha Horenstein, Mois Zlatin, Alicia Markova, Anton Dolin, Andre Eglevsky, Nora Kaye, Hugh Laing, Lucia Chase, Antony Tudor, Alicia Alonso, John Kriza, Janet Reed, Dimitri Romanoff, and Michael Kidd, among others. Some of the advertised products or businesses in this program: Elizabeth Arden, Capehart, Geneve, Gourelli, Nettie Rosenstein, Prince Matchabelli, Henri Bendel, Harriet Hubbard, Leigh, Coty, Renoir, Rosemarie chocolatier, Chanel, Ciro, Pinaud, Magnavox, and Seagram's V. O. Canadian. This Ballet Theatre may be the one and the same as the Ballet Theatre founded in 1939 by Lucia Chase and Robert Pleasant. Chase's and Pleasant's company changed its name to American Ballet Theatre (ABT) in 1957 and is still active to this day.
