Original vintage advertising poster for the General Post Office (GPO) - Wheatstone?s Tape Telegraph 1858 - featuring a great illustration by Eric Fraser (1902-1983) of the notable English scientist and inventor Charles Wheatstone (1802-1875) demonstrating the use of the Tape Telegraph he invented in 1858 (the first practical automated transmitting telegraphic system) with a bright star in the sky in the background, the GPO logo and stylised title text below. One of a series of posters published by the GPO to showcase the new telephone and telegraphy technologies. The General Post Office GPO was founded in 1660; Royal Mail was founded in 1516. Horizontal.
