We see images of marines holding rifles, group images in uniform with tents in background, other images on base, Photos in the pacific jungles, and on rivers with local barges, some buildings with many bullet holes, a Japanese soldier, some destroyed buildings in ruin, and a series of WWII fighter airplanes with pin up nose art. Some shirtless soldiers relaxing together in the jungles. Some of the most interesting ones are of local life in the Pacific, including stray dogs, monkeys, local women, and boats on the river. Many of the postcards also have illustrated views of marine bases and soldiers in action. Postcards are written to the marine s family in Georgia. Also some photo negatives, war news articles, documents and a ribbon are laid in. Photographs are 2.5"x3.5" and 3" x 4." Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211 lost all but one of its twelve F4F-3s during the attack on Pearl Harbor and had to slowly rebuild. In May 1942, the squadron was deployed to the South Pacific and adopted the nickname "Avengers." They also notably liberated the Philippines from Japanese control in 1944 and 1945. After the war, the squadron participated in the occupation of China.
