The second edition of this work.Bound in half crushed morocco with marbled boards and endpapers.Originally published in 1802, this dictionary marked the popularisation of ornithology in Britain, alongside Thomas Bewick's A History of British Birds.It contains an extensive series of species and their descriptions, with commentary on their characteristics, behaviours, habitats and more.The work also discusses the eggs of birds, and a description of a bird discovered by Montagu in 1800 called the 'Cirl bunting'.Illustrated with numerous charming vignettes throughout. In half crushed morocco binding with marbled boards. Externally, smart. With rubbing to the extremities, resulting in patches of fading to the boards. Internally, firmly bound.
