William Shieh is an associate professor and reader in the electrical and electronic engineering department, The University of Melbourne, Australia. He received his M.S. degree in electrical engineering and Ph.D. degree in physics both from University of Southern California.

Ivan Djordjevic is an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Arizona, Tucson, where he directs the Optical Communications Systems Laboratory (OCSL). His current research interests include optical networks, error control coding, constrained coding, coded modulation, turbo equalization, OFDM applications, and quantum error correction.

Ivan B. Djordjevic is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL. He used to be a Professor of ECE and Optical Sciences, Director of the Optical Communications Systems Laboratory
and the Quantum Communications Laboratory, and co-Director of the Signal Processing and Coding Lab at the University of Arizona, from which he recently retired. He is a fellow of IEEE and the Optica. Dr. Djordjevic has authored or co-authored 12 books and more than 610 journal and conference publications. He holds 58 US patents.
