Out Of The Box (Paperback)

This revised edition of OUT OF THE BOX is the story of one woman's journey "out of the box" of a stifling marriage. Marla Harris Simmons is just one of a multitude of women caught in the imaginary, but nonetheless formidable, "box" of marriage to a controlling husband. Although painfully aware of her limitations of life in the box, she remains there until forced to leave the box's deceptive security and venture forth into the world. Marla begins her search for her place, her personal destiny, by stepping forward into the modern world while going backward to rediscover her heritage.

Born in York County, PA, Wanda spent her formative years in Washington County, TN. Her first published work was PATHS TO THE FUTURE, a poem for the Boones Creek High School Class of 1966. From 1973, she resided in or near Jacksonville, FL, but recently moved just a few miles north to a small town in Georgia. Following the demise of her 25-year marriage, Wanda began writing in earnest. In the past ten years, she has penned one novel, two books of poetry, hundreds of poems, a cookbook and a couple of non-fiction works. To compliment her writings, Wanda made two spoken word recordings of her poetry, now available through CD BABY and most digital download sites. She recently finished and published, ONE WOMAN'S ROMANTIC SOUL, a collection of her romantic poetry and poetic prose, and is working on her second novel. In 1999, Wanda won Third Place in the international VOICES OF SERENITY competition, sponsored by The Ancient Wind Press for her poem entitled I SHALL. Her work has received several Editors' Choice awards, numerous honorable mention honors, and is published in more than a few poetry anthologies in the US and the England. Wanda is known from Roanoke to Russia and from Alabama to Africa for her romantic impressions and down-to-earth style.
