Out of the Depths & Other Stories

This collection of Brenner's work includes the novella Out of the Depths, as well as One Year, From A to M, Impressions of a Journey, The Way Out, Nerves, He Said to Her, The Slander and The First of May. The collection also includes Memories of Brenner by Brenner's contemporary, David Shimoni. Translated with introduction by David Patterson and Ezra Spicehandler.

Brenner (1881-1921) escaped from the Russian army where he worked as a typesetter and editor. Immigrating to Palestine in 1909, he was killed by Arab rioters in 1921. Brenner was the most prominent literary figure in pre-state Israel in his day, and shifted the center of Hebrew literary activities away from Europe.
