The Outcast: Code Apache: The story of a hotshot crew fighting forest fire in the 1980s

The Outcast: Code Apache is a powerful story, part true and part fiction, inspired by the lives of Hotshot firefighters battling major wildfires in the American West.

Centered on the Silver Fire in Southern Oregon in 1987, the book follows an elite crew working deep in unforgiving wilderness, facing not only flame and exhaustion, but the pressures of a harsh internal system shaped by politics, image, and survival.

With vivid scenes from the fireline, unforgettable characters, and the constant tension between what the public sees and what firefighters live through, The Outcast: Code Apache captures a defining era of wildfire history and the men who endured it.

A literary and deeply atmospheric portrait of brotherhood, danger, resilience, and the reality behind the flames.
