Outline of Basic Statistics: Dictionary and Formulas

"Should be part of the library of anyone using statistical methods."—American Library Association
Dictionaries of statistical terms are extremely useful tools for students and statistical practitioners who need a brief explanation of basic terms and formulas. This is just such a resource, arranged in two convenient sections. Part I consists of a seventy-page outline of essential statistical formulas covering such topics as grouped and ungrouped data, finite populations, probability, nonparametric tests, analysis of variance, index number formulas, and more. The second section contains a clear and concise dictionary of over 1,000 statistical terms.
This book is also a useful reference for professionals in a variety of disciplines:
• Specialists in both the social and natural sciences who require some knowledge of experimental design, statistical inference, and decision theory
• Managers who must understand and use basic business statistics and methods of quality control on the job and need to know the language of operations research
• Engineers who must understand the methods and terminology of quality control, operations research, reliability work, experimental design, and computer technology
• Research workers who must comprehend enough of the language of statistics to understand technical reports
