We are rapidly destroying Earth’s ability to support life. Grave suffering will define our future unless we rapidly change how we do almost everything, a seeming impossibility within existing capitalistic systems. A new way is needed. Outposts of Change presents a new way. Taking the reader on an extraordinary journey, it conveys a vision of how to refine our relationship with nature, respond to the climate crisis, rebuild local economies, eliminate inequalities, and create a more just and humane global community.
Earth is a living organism composed of interconnected and interdependent life support systems that are under fierce attack. Our leading scientists have warned the global elite for decades of not just climate change, but of the destruction of the entirety of Earth’s life support systems. They have implored global leaders to change how we do almost everything. Those warnings have not been heeded. The unraveling of Earth’s life support systems has begun.
To save ourselves from ourselves, we must re-imagine and then redefine how our existing structures and their associated systems of governance, commerce, finance, and religion operate. This requires a basic understanding of the foundational purpose of each structure, which is revealed within Outposts.
Outposts was written to help heal the world by inspiring fundamental social change. It provides both environmental and social justice guidance and proposes new goals designed to enable us to not just survive, but to thrive. To achieve these goals will require the largest and most unifying movement of social change ever attempted. Outposts develops a plan of action to create and empower that movement.
The ultimate objective of this work is to spark an evolutionary level event, one within which humanity overcomes self-imposed limitations to transform itself into a civilization destined to explore the great wonders of this most incredible universe. We have the knowledge and the ability to operate our societies more humanely and less destructively. Whether we possess the courage and the will to do so is not yet known. About the Author
Benjamin R. Wiener is a naturalist, a humanist, an environmentalist, an adventurer, and a retired attorney. He majored in environmental science before that was a thing and became corporate counsel to an alternative energy company before that was a thing. He has studied earth processes, as well as how our societies function and their associated impacts on the natural world for over 50 years. Those studies resulted in countless hours of deep thought considering how to fundamentally change our ways to enable humanity to not just survive, but to thrive. Outposts of Change is the culmination of his life's work. Ben lives in California with his wife and golden retriever.
