Mathew “Doc” Pearson wants nothing more than to put his life of service behind him, especially the clandestine missions, the shooting, the being shot and most of all, working with his ex-wife. We don’t always get what we want. Doc Pearson, a fifth-generation cattle rancher in Central Florida, earned his nickname along with his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. But he doesn’t see himself as a highbrow type, identifying more with the working dogs on his Sunset Ranch. Louise still maintains contact as his ex-handler, ex-wife, and mother of his only son, Ted. Special Agent Louise Walker, or as Doc prefers to call her, the She-Devil, doesn’t hesitate to involve him in various unsanctioned missions from time to time. This time, however, the mission is all on Doc. A simple cattle drive to satisfy an obscure audit to maintain control of his land. Or is there more to the ride than it appears?
