The Overthrow of the War System

The Overthrow Of The War System is a book written by Jane Addams and published in 1915. The book focuses on the idea that war is not an inevitable part of human nature, but rather a product of social and economic conditions. Addams argues that the war system is perpetuated by a small group of powerful individuals who benefit from conflict and that the only way to end war is to address the underlying causes of conflict.Addams draws on her experience as a social reformer and founder of Hull House, a settlement house in Chicago that provided social services to immigrants and the poor. She also draws on her experiences as a peace activist, including her involvement in the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. The book is divided into three parts. The first part provides an overview of the war system and its causes. The second part focuses on the role of women in ending war and promoting peace. The third part provides practical suggestions for ending the war system, including disarmament, international cooperation, and the establishment of a world court.Overall, The Overthrow Of The War System is a passionate and well-reasoned argument for the abolition of war. It remains a landmark work in the history of peace activism and is still widely read and cited today. Also By Lucia Ames Mead, Rose Dabney Forbes, Denys P. Myers, Ruby G.
