Oxford Reading Tree: Levels 10-12: TreeTops True Stories: Over the Rainbow

Over the Rainbow The story of Judy Garland's (Frances Gumm's) early years up until the point where she is made world famous upon the release of the phenomenally successful The Wizard of Oz. Almost all children will be familiar with this film, and recognise the almost iconographic image on the cover. However, what they might not realise is the struggle, pain and determination that the young Frances Gumm went through in order to achieve her fame. The relationship with her domineering mother, adoring sisters and the early death of her beloved father are all explored. What emerges is a tale that might seem like everyone's dream of the bright lights and gilded hall of fame, but in reality was to rob the young star of a proper childhood and chance of long-term happiness. Year 4 title supporting the basic need for different text-types (non-fiction) reading in NLS. TreeTops now branching out into non-fiction, with the same high-quality that the fiction strands enjoy. These books contain full introduction and story background sections, narrative 'faction' text and full supporting contents, index and glossary.
