Oblong 20" X 11 1/2". On parchment. In typescript, completed in manuscript. With elaborate typography. Metes and bounds described. Seal in upper left corner of recto, docketed on verso, also with seal. Very attractive. Old folds, Near Fine. During the Revolution, Mifflin had been quartermaster general of the Continental Army, and also served in the first Continental Congress. A signer of the Constitution, he was the first governor of post-Constitution Pennsylvania. Trimble was Pennsylvania's first Deputy Secretary. Each of them signs in ink. I am not entirely certain why the Commonwealth would issue this Land Patent, as the tract was evidently owned by Harvey at the time of sale. But the Patent reserved to Pennsylvania "the fifth part of all Gold and Silver Ore": this clause may have necessitated the precaution to place Williamson directly under obligation to the Commonwealth.
