Black blind-stamped cloth with gilt spine lettering, sl. corner bumping otherwise clean and unworn. Tipped in f/piece photo of author (possibly added later given date of publication) + 288 pp.; no internal faults bar page edge tanning throughout, end gutters good, some ingrained dustiness to top edge. A weaver by trade Bamford (1788-1872) was a prominent early 19th century radical, witnessed the Peterloo Massacre and was briefly jailed in its aftermath (this episode is described at length in the final chapters). Bibliographically complex, this work published in several parts 1840-1844 and often reprinted thereafter, therefore this 1st volume is not actually a 1st ed., his longevity enhances the likelihood the f/piece was tipped in later. He also published poetry, much in the Lancashire dialect. 11 cm x 17,5 cm.
