Après « L'Enfance du Christ », Arcabas nous offre son dernier polyptyque sur la Passion et la Résurrection, et atteint ainsi le point le plus aigu de sa méditation picturale sur le mystère du Verbe fait chair. Ce qu'il révèle à travers l'explosion de ses couleurs, c'est le combat de la Lumière et des ténèbres qui se livre au fond de nous-mêmes. Sa pâte picturale est faite de notre pâte humaine. Pour accompagner cette oeuvre, Fabrice Hadjadj a écrit un texte, « Gabbatha », qui est à la fois une oeuvre théâtrale et un jeu de société mystique. Comme le dit l'un de ses personnages : « Ces tableaux sous nos yeux sont les cartes jetées / D'un tarot clairvoyant où se mire notre âme. » À chacun de nous de reconnaître ici, autour de la Croix, le drame secret de sa propre vie.

After ‘L'Enfance du Christ', Arcabas brings us his last polyptych on the Passion and the Resurrection, and, in so doing, reaches the deepest point of his pictorial meditation on the mystery of the Word made flesh. What he reveals through the explosion of his colours, is nothing less than the combat between Light and darkness that takes place deep within ourselves. His pictorial substance is also our human substance. To accompany the work, Fabrice Hadjadj has written a text, ‘Gabbatha', both a work for the theatre and a mystical game. As one of the characters says, ‘These paintings in front of our eyes are tarot cards laid out/By a clairvoyant that reflect our soul.' Each of us may recognise here, around the Cross, the secret drama of his own life.
