About the Author
Hans Conzelmann (1915--1989) dedicated himself to New Testament studies at the universities of Tubingen, Heidelberg, and Gottingen in Germany. His The Theology of St. Luke, introduced a new epoch in the interpretation of the Synoptic Gospels, followed by landmark studies on Jesus and Paul. Martin Dibelius (1883-1947) was Professor of New Testament at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and one of the most important biblical scholars of the twentieth century. Among his many publications in English are From Tradition to Gospel (1934), The Sermon on the Mount (1940), Paul (1953), and The Pastoral Epistles (Hermeneia; Fortress Press, 1972).
Helmut Koester is John H. Morison Research Professor of Divinity and Winn Research Professor of Ecclesiastical History at Harvard Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Chair of the New Testament Board of the Hermeneia commentary series.
