Color lithograph. Sheet measures 20 1/4 x 13 3/4 inches. Two folds with some wear, otherwise in good condition. Persuasive map of John Bull and Uncle Sam holding the earth aloft, with an angel of peace flying around the globe. The two figures symbolize power and reach and confidence following the Spanish American war. Founded in 1871, Puck was the first American humor magazine to find widespread success, to which its caricatures and cartoons were a substantial contributing factor. It was published in English and German and reached a wide audience on both sides of the political spectrum by campaigning for good government. Its satirical cartoons provide an enlightening and entertaining look into this era of American politics.
