Brooklyn: Phenix Insurance Company, [n.d., circa 1890]. pp. Illustrated. Small quarto. Original chromolithographic wrappers. Wrappers lightly edgeworn, some separation along backstrip. Very good. Victorian-era insurance company advertising in the form of a children's book. The text contains bedtime stories to read to the little ones, charming illustrations of domestic and pastoral bliss, and examples of shadow pictures. The text is preceded by a two-page advertisement headlined "Shall I Insure My Property?" which, the company assures us, can only be responsibly answered one way. The Phenix Insurance Company often issued colorful cards with juvenile and fairy tale themes as part of its "family-friendly" advertising. The verso of the front wrapper contains an ad for Kingsford's Pure and Silver Gloss Starch, illustrated in the manner of the rest of the text. No copies are located in OCLC.
