8vo; (viii),188 pages; Scattered foxing, otherwise contents unmarked and secure in original green cloth binding with gilt lettering at spine and decorative stamping in gilt and black to front board and spine -- image of insects and human figure sitting on a bench with a box on lap "Logic for Sale!" Cloth lightly rubbed; former owner's name on front ep. Frontispiece and numerous original illustrations (in-text and full page) from drawings by the author engraved on wood by G. Pearson. Swinbourne designed this book to help readers develop their logical reasoning skills by guiding them through a series of challenging verbal and visual puzzles. A brilliant effort and making the study of analytical philosophy entertaining. George Pearson, who rendered the author's amusing illustrations into wood engravings, was an accomplished engraver and illustrator, much employed in cutting woodblocks for book illustrations, such as Rev. Wood's 'Homes Without Hands', Lady Herbert's 'Search after Sunshine' and Lady Jackson's 'Fair Lusitania'. He was a staunch supporter of his craft and its artistic tradition in opposition to the various devices of the “process-man” and other mechanical operators. …
