Item description from seller

De Kroyft, Mrs. S(arah) H(elen). A PLACE IN THY MEMORY. New York: John F. Trow, Printer and Stereotyper 1860. (copyright 1949 in NY).Known also as the autobiography of a blind girl. [See references that follow.] Born in 1818 in New York, this spirited girl conquered unsurmountableodds that would have doomed many others. The autobiographical "A PLACE IN THY MEMORY," her first work, published by subscriptions that shepersonally solicted, was very popular and went into many printings. She also supported herself by lecturing. References: Sabin. BibliothecaAmericana No. 18322; Adams. A Dictionary of American Authors. Adams states: "A writer living in Dansville, NY, who became blind soon after hermarriage in 1845, her husband having died on their wedding day." Sabin thought enough of De Kroyft's work to include it in his monumentalBibliotheca Americana, A Dictionary of Books Relating to America. A PLACE IN THY MEMORY has a portrait of the author plus a view, 191pp.

Store description

This collection of books belonged to my Father. He was an Antiquarian Bookseller most of his life. He owned and operated a retail bookstore for over 50 years in Florida. He then retired to the North Carolina Mountains where he continued to collect and sell books. Each one of these titles were hand held, personally described, and added to his inventory of collectibles.
