PLAYdate

Calling all moms (and any other family members too!) who have volunteered to help put on a play at their kids' school! If you're wondering what insanity struck you that moment you agreed to help, then this is the book for you. With 12 chapters that take you step by step through the process of staging a play with elementary children, you'll feel empowered to turn your daunting, overwhelming task into something amazingly doable. There are so many schools nowadays whose budget for their theatre program is just a little below the price of a gallon of gas. So how are the kids supposed to get started with a play if not for volunteers? You know how important it is to teach these kids to write, compose and act. You know how they will benefit from breaking through their shyness, learning to speak in public and being a part of something larger than themselves! So volunteer and make it happen for them!

Cindy Marcus began her career as a director and actress before she picked up a pen. With her husband and writing partner, Flip Kobler, they have been penning away ever since selling their first screenplay to Paramount Studios in 1988. Together they have over 30 published plays that are performed worldwide.

Teaming with composing partner Dennis Poore, the trio formed Showdown Stage Company that specializes in teen theater. They run summer camps all across the country, from Florida to Missouri to Los Angeles. Most of these teen theater camps get to premiere a brand new show, which gives young actors a chance to put their own unique stamp on a character and help craft the final draft before publication. They continue to change young lives by running on-going classes and workshops out of Spotlight Arts Center in Valencia, California.
