xv+iv+320, marbled edges & endpapers; clean, tight & unmarked internally, short paper split fr.gutter, main faults are two brown triangular stains to bottom of gutters extending from fr. inwards to p.x (this 2 x 0.5 cms at maximum) and inwards from back to p.174, though barely perceptible before about p.294 (this initially larger, c. 3 x 1.5 cms at commencement), sl.superficial wrinkling to rear endpaper; attractive binding half-greenish leather with black (or v.dark brown) marbled boards, clean and minimally worn bar rubbed corners and sl.rubbing to top fr.joint and top sp. Gilt panelled sp.bright with good gilt-on red label. Small label top fr. pastedown gives binders as the 'Operative Jewish Converts Institution' in Bethnal Green. Although a perennial best-seller from 1797 onwards all early editions now apparently quite scarce. Despite faults as listed this remains VG for age and binding.
