PROSTHODONTIC STENTS: SAFEGUARDING AGAINST RADIATION

Radiotherapy is a cornerstone in the treatment of head and neck cancer, but it's precision comes with a price: oral complications, tissue damage and long-term functional impairment. In this clinically rich and deeply researched work, the author explores the critical function of intraoral stents, custom-crafted devices that shield healthy tissues, enhance radiation delivery and reduce complications like mucositis, xerostomia and osteoradionecrosis. At the heart of this innovation is the prosthodontist, whose expertise in oral anatomy, restorative techniques and material science plays an indispensable role throughout cancer treatment. From planning and designing patient-specific stents to guiding oral rehabilitation and preserving function and esthetics, a prosthodontist stands as a bridge between oncology and quality of life. Through historical context, detailed classifications, fabrication protocols and recent advancements, this book is both a technical guide and a call for collaborative, multidisciplinary cancer care. Aimed at dental professionals, oncologists, and researchers, this is an essential resource for anyone committed.
