As an archivist or records manager, it is essential to keep up to date with the complexities of copyright legislation, and Copyright for Archivists and Records Managers has been described as an "unparalleled" resource for that purpose. This comprehensive manual uniquely outlines copyright law in the UK with special reference to the unpublished materials commonly found in archives and records collections such as maps, legal records, records of local authorities, and parish registers. It also gives comprehensive information on authorship and duration of copyright in older as well as modern works and on the wide range of exceptions and limitations to copyright, particularly those relevant to archivists, records managers, librarians, and curators. It offers advice on rights in the electronic environment, moral rights, and rights in databases and contains extensive tables of the duration of copyright in other countries. This new edition takes into account the legislative changes since the UK's exit from the European Union. It also incorporates material on digital records within the text.
The seventh edition of this respected work has been extensively revised and explores new topics such as
- different approaches to risk management and mitigation;
- using artificial intelligence in archives and records collections;
- impediments to access and use of records created by technical protection measures;
- the legal implications of digital preservation activities; and
- the impact of ongoing European and International legislative changes.

About the Author
Tim Padfield MA, LLM worked for over thirty years at The National Archives (formerly the Public Record Office) as an Assistant Keeper of Public Records and then as Secretary of the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Council on Public Records and, for fifteen years, as Copyright Officer, advising TNA and archivists around the UK on copyright issues of all kinds. He retired in 2013 but maintains an interest in the law of copyright with particular reference to unpublished materials. He is a past chair of the Libraries and Archives Copyright Alliance and has a postgraduate law degree, with merit, from the University of London with a specialism in intellectual property.
Victoria Stobo is a Lecturer in Record-Keeping at the Liverpool University Centre for Archive Studies. She has worked in a variety of archives, museums, libraries and galleries since 2008. She qualified as an archivist in 2012, taking an MSc in Information Management and Preservation in the Department of Information Studies at the University of Glasgow and later went on to a PhD study examining the ways in which copyright law affects the digitization of archive collections in the UK, which she completed in 2018.
