Painkillers

Pain is a necessary component of life. It’s a warning sign for bodily harm and is indicative of issues that need attention. Physical and mental pain plague millions of people on a daily basis. For those who suffer, all thought is devoted to escaping discomfort, but all too often the wrong escape routes are chosen.

In Painkiller, Rev. Jacky Connell describes the seven ineffective and harmful methods that people commonly fall on in an attempt to manage pain. Reverend Connell covers the lures of

• isolation,
• inappropriate relationships,
• an independent spirit,
• idolatry,
• intoxication,
• intellectual sabotage, and
• insecurity.

For each situation, Reverend Connell offers advice on finding God’s way of rising above the temptation of brief distraction and embracing true recovery through faith.

Painkillers avoids accusation and condemnation, reinforcing the fact that all pain is real. One person’s pain cannot be compared to the pain of another, for it is a personal experience. There is no clear-cut multistep solution, but God’s love is there for all who seek healing.

For those who hurt, Jesus is more than a painkiller—He is the pain taker.

Rev. Jacky Connell received the call to ministry at a young age. He became a pastor in 1981 and has served as senior pastor of Eden Westside Baptist Church for the past thirty years.

Reverend Connell has a passion for preaching and teaching the word of God. He believes that any individual can unlock his or her full potential through an empowering personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Reverend Connell currently lives in Leeds, Alabama, with his wife. Together, they have two children and four grandchildren.
