Octavo hardcover in purple boards with gilt titling to spine, plus printed paper dustjacket. 224pp with over 125 b/w illustrations. Clean internally unmarked, and well bound. Boards sunned moderately at edges. Two very small, faint spots to rear boards. Trivial wear besides, corners sharp. Gilt on spine still lustrous. DJ spine extremities with moderate wear/ small chips. closed 1/2" tear to upper edge of front DJ. Rear upper edge with pronounced crease and small chips. Page interiors fresh and bright, crisp and with much life. Being a treatise by American artists Romare Bearden and Carl Holty on "many of the most important painting problems [.] establish[ing] continuities in the long history of picture-making by describing the methods employed by the great painters".
