Various pamphlets and correspondence relating to Hamilton Fish's son Nicholas Fish, bound into single volume. octavo, three quarter calf with ornate gilt spine design, gilt-lettered "Pamphlets - Nicholas Fish"; slightly rubbed, bumped corners. The volume, which was presented to Nicholas (1846-1902), who served as Secretary of Legation at Berlin and the United States Ambassador to Switzerland, includes: "Extradition Treaty with Great Britain," 69 pages (Ex. Inserted between several foreign-language pamphlets regarding treaties between Switzerland and countries like Denmark, France, Germany, and Great Britain is a three-page autograph letter (May 15, 1876) to Fish from his noted colleague Alfred Claparède. Considered the first Swiss professional diplomat, Claparède (1842-1922) worked closely with Fish in Berlin and later served as the charge d'affaires in Vienna and the Swiss Minister in Washington.
