The Papacy: God's Gift for All Christians

Who is the Pope, and What is His Role in the Church?Dr. Robert Stackpole, STD, Director of the John Paul II Institute of Divine Mercy and Assistant Director of Formation at the St. Therese Institute, explains the role of the Papacy and its foundation in Scripture and Tradition. Born the son of a Protestant Pastor, Dr. Stackpole became an Anglican as an undergraduate, and pursued a vocation to the Anglican priesthood. Grateful for the faith passed on to him in those years, he nevertheless felt something was missing. Drawn to the Catholic Church, his greatest stumbling block to entering was the doctrine of the Papacy. This volume is the result of his critical, in-depth study of the “Petrine Ministry,” a quest that helped him embrace that office as the Lord’s will for all Christians. This book, writes Dr. Scott Hahn, Professor of Theology and Scripture at Franciscan University of Steubenville, “is a very valuable and readable study for all Christians.”

Dr. Robert Stackpole, STD, holds a Master’s degree in Theology from Oxford University and a Doctorate in Theology from the Angelicum in Rome. He is the author of several books for The Chartwell Press, most recently: as the co-editor with Dr. Paul Brown of Trinity Western University, of More than Myth: Seeking the Full Truth about Genesis, Creation and Evolution. He is a leading author and public speaker for the Divine Mercy movement. Dr. Stackpole is Director of the John Paul II Institute of Divine Mercy, and on the faculty of St. Therese Institute of Faith and Mission in Canada. He taught for 10 years at Redeemer Pacific College, the first Catholic College to function as a official Teaching Center of an Evangelical University, (Trinity Western) specializing in Ecumenical Dialogue and in the works of C.S. Lewis.
