Issued as Volume XVII, No. 1 of the Papers Read Before the Lancaster County Historical Society, the January 3, 1913 session captures a moment in early 20th century history when scholars and neighbours gathered to preserve Lancaster Pennsylvania heritage. Their contributions, rooted in primary source documents and research, form a county history anthology that illuminates Lancaster County history within the wider story of Pennsylvania local history. These historical society proceedings belong in any serious local history collection or shelf of american local history books, opening a window onto how the past was understood by those closest to it. Meeting papers, reports and addresses provide context for american historical research: names, events, institutions and landscapes that matter to anyone tracing family lines or reconstructing community stories.
