4to 11" - 13" tall; 378 pages; 1873 Basil Montagu Pickering, London. Facsimile reprinting of Milton's magnum opus. In full diced burgundey leather with double filet gilt tules to board edges and gilt tooled corner pieces. Extra gilt decorative work in the spine compartments with titles tooled directrly in gilt to the leather. All edges gilt; marbled paper endleaves. Armorial bookplate of Jac. Edw Welldon to front pastedown; 1944 gift inscription top corner of front free endpage. Upper board detached at joint with mild evidence of a prior failed PVA repair. Light shelf rubbing to leather at corners and extremities with shallo loss at tail of the spine. Appears to be large paper edition with wide generous margins; pages bright and fresh.
