Synopsis
Discusses the characteristics, impact, and treatment of attention deficit disorders
Reviews
This is the first in a new series sponsored by the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Bain, a medical journalist, attempts to help parents understand Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). She writes in clear, understandable prose, resulting in a comprehensive study of ADHD, its diagnosis, history, possible causes, methods for management, and issues of family stress and school-home relationships. Bain addresses the controversies surrounding not only ADHD treatment, but also the arguments regarding its definition. She acknowledges the lack of absolute solutions, the variations in cases, and the need for parental decisions. As a parent resource, Bain's book is especially thorough and well balanced in its approach, and a superb value. Recommended for all public and most undergraduate (especially community college) libraries.
