Amid the wealth of materials on esoteric diets, it is good to see this basic source for nutrition information for the family. Chapters include vitamins, minerals, food groups, and nutritional requirements for various age groups. There are suggestions to increase interest in healthy diet and make food appealing for the picky eaterfrom school lunches to fast food to food choices for travel to microwave cooking. Also discussed are alternative diets (vegetarian, megavitamin, high fiber); controlling food allergies; food preparation, selection, and storage; and common food additives for preservation, flavoring, and increased nutrition.
