In a simple lift-the-flaps storybook, Parsnip the lamb makes friends in the farmhouse as she searches for her mother, and little readers are invited to lift flaps in search of mother sheep.

Reviews

PreSchool-K?The popular lift-the-flap gimmick isn't enough to save this failed effort. On a stormy winter night, Mama Sheep can't keep her baby warm in the barn. The farmer takes the lamb into the house and feeds her. After finding a warm place to sleep?a parsnip box?the lamb plays with the household pets. After finding her a sweater to keep her warm, the lamb's new friends help her to look for her mother. Pedestrian text and lackluster line-and-wash illustrations deflate the appealing idea of a vulnerable animal in need of care. Even the little lamb and kittens aren't particularly appealing, looking more scrawny and scruffy than adorable. A lift-the-flap flop.?Heide Piehler, Shorewood Public Library, WI
