About the Author

E. M. Forster (1879 - 1970) estudi� Literatura Cl�sica e Historia en el King’s College de Cambridge. Para completar su formaci�n, pas� largas estancias en Italia y Grecia; all�, el ambiente que encontr�, m�s desinhibido y tolerante, lo cautiv�, puesto que contrastaba enormemente con la rigidez y la formalidad excesiva que hab�a conocido hasta entonces en Inglaterra. A pesar de que Forster no era precisamente un hombre de cen�culos, fue considerado un asiduo al grupo de Bloomsbury, donde se relacion� con personajes como Lytton Strachey y Virginia Woolf. Forster es el escritor que ha observado con m�s precisi�n el conflicto entre las personas que hacen caso a la raz�n y las que siguen el dictado del coraz�n: las primeras son rutinarias y se aferran a convenciones rid�culas, las segundas dan alas a sus sentimientos y, sobre todo, no se dejan intimidar por prejuicios y formalismos.
