The Past Speaks: Sources and Problems in British History, Vol. 2: Since 1688

"The Past Speaks" consists solely of primary source materials organized under thematic headings. As most college teachers are aware, students are not necessarily fascinated by original documents. Initially, it is the teacher who wishes the student to go beyond the textbook and to taste at least some of the raw historical evidence that is transformed into the carefully prepared, suitably seasoned, multi-course textbook meal. A selection of such documents compels students to reach their own generalizations or, at the very least, to test the generalizations in their textbooks.
