Pastel Workbook: A Complete Course in Ten Lessons (Art Workbook Series)

This text presents a complete pastel painting course for the beginner in ten easy-to-follow lessons. The author guides the newcomer step-by-step through the basics of working with this medium, and demonstrates how to achieve results right from the start. A survey of materials, equipment and the range of pastels available leads straight into the first lesson in mark-making and developing pastel technique. The lessons then go on to discuss: form, tone, light and colour; working from life, both indoors and out; and the basic elements of picture-making. Readers are also encouraged to experiment with painting on different surfaces and using other media in combination with pastels. Each lesson begins with a list of aims, which are followed by clear instructions on how to achieve them. Step-by-step demonstrations, annotated artworks and finished paintings reveal the whole process in detail, while practical exercises allow beginners to build up their own workbook.
