This wonderful story by James Fenimore Cooper was originally published in 1840. It's about Natty Bumppo, a wilderness scout, who comes to the aid of a British colonial garrison under attack. Bumppo loves Mabel Dunham, daughter of a sergeant; but she loves his friend, Jasper Western, who is believed to be a traitor. The true traitor, Lieutenant, Davy Muir, is eventually killed.
