This year, over 50,000 North American men will die of prostate cancer, and more than 184,000 will be diagnosed with the disease. But now, there is earlier diagnosis and better treatment as the medical establishment makes progress towards defeating this devastating illness. This invaluable guide covers every aspect of prostate cancer, from potential causesincluding dietto tests for diagnosis, curative treatment, and innovative means of controlling advanced stages of cancer. It also addresses the sensitive issues of impotence and incontinence after surgery, tells men what to look for in a surgeon, and features a section on alternative medicine. With an extensive glossary, index, and listing of where to get help, this comprehensive book is the definitive guide on prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is a major health concern of men over the age of 50, and the most common cancer in men. A new case is diagnosed in North America every 16 minutes. This book will serve as a much-needed resource. Dr. Walsh and Janet Farrar Worthington are also the authors of the groundbreaking book, The Prostate (Warner, 1997). Articles about the book and Dr. Walsh appeared in The New York Times, Scientific American, and Washingtonian, among other publications.
