In late June 1964, financier Jacques Mossler was killed in his Key Biscayne apartment. His wife, Candace Mossler, and her nephew, Melvin Lane Powers, were later charged with his murder and tried together in Florida. On March 6, 1966, a jury acquitted them both. The state argued that motive, opportunity, physical evidence, travel, and testimony formed a coherent pattern pointing toward Candace Mossler and Melvin Lane Powers.
