The Pattern (Paperback or Softback)

Some people are cared for. Few are truly loved.

Michael is a care assistant in a dementia home where every day follows the same exhausting routine. Staff shortages, impossible workloads, and endless paperwork leave little time for the people behind the care plans. Over time, compassion has been replaced by efficiency, and cutting corners has become part of surviving the job.

Then Alice Walker arrives.

She has no family, no past, and no medical history. Quiet and observant, she seems to understand the residents—and Michael—better than anyone should. Wherever Alice goes, something extraordinary begins to happen. Residents trapped by dementia experience fleeting moments of startling clarity. Long-forgotten memories return. Hidden regrets surface. And Michael begins to see the care home, and himself, in a completely different light.

As unsettling events begin to unfold, Michael is forced to confront uncomfortable truths about the system he works in, the choices made in the name of efficiency, and the difference between simply caring for someone and truly loving them.

Heartbreaking, thought-provoking, and quietly uplifting, The Pattern is a powerful novel about dignity, compassion, redemption, and the profound human need to be seen. Perfect for readers who enjoy emotionally rich stories with subtle mystery, unforgettable characters, and themes that linger long after the final page.
